DAMA/LIBRA is the enthralling new collaboration between two revered veterans of the national indie and avant rock scenes, Joel RL Phelps (formerly of underground rock legends, Silkworm, and currently working with his own band, The Downer Trio) and G. Stuart Dahlquist (formerly of doom metal progenitors, Burning Witch/SunnO))), and currently of Asva). They are proud to be releasing their first full-length album as a duo, Claw, on Northern Spy Records on August 12th, 2014. Combining the unique talents of both artists, Claw is a pronouncement of lush composition – teeming with a quiet intensity, subtle beauty, and pulsating with moments of raw, emotional catharsis.
Tune in to WKDU on Sunday August 24th at 8 pm for a special instudio performance from Mary Lattimore and Jeff Zeigler. This instudio comes just ahead of their forthcoming LP "Slant of Light" on Thrill Jockey Records. "The strong and fast kinship between Lattimore and Zeigler is best understood in the context of their highly collaborative pasts. Lattimore has recorded and performed with Kurt Vile, Meg Baird, Jarvis Cocker, Wrekmeister Harmonies and Steve Gunn, . . . and her years touring with Thurston Moore inform some of Slant of Light’s noisier moments. Zeigler has played with members of Chris Forsyth’s Solar Motel Band, The War on Drugs, and A Sunny Day in Glasgow in his group Arc in Round. The contemplative, dynamic improvisations on Slant of Light reflect the collaborative ingenuity of musicians experienced in adapting their playing and sound to fit multiple contexts." Clipping. will be stopping by WKDU on Friday, August 22nd to record a live session that will be aired the following Monday. They make party music for the club you wish you hadn’t gone to, the car you don’t remember getting in, and the streets you don’t feel safe on. More sonically challenging than that of the punkish rap rockers and lo-fi bedroom producers, LA rap group clipping. see themselves as respectfully following the path first explored by rap’s pioneering sound designers like The Bomb Squad and Dr. Dre: incessantly questioning the rules of the genre.
