People Skills is electronic, lo-fi, downbeat—buzzing tones and distorted melodies that manage to insinuate themselves just behind your frontal lobes. The project has a new 10-track self-titled release on Siltbreeze, with song titles that suggest serious bumout: “This Life Was in a Room,” “Plague for Self,” “The Scene of the Poet John Berryman’s Suicide in 1972.” But there’s frequent chime and small-scale bursts of brightness. See especially the tune “American Boards,” which snake-charms its way down toward your hips. Then listen to them LIVE June 8th at WKDU on The Frequency at 8 pm.
