Sunday, July 19, 2026 (All day) - Monday, July 20, 2026 (All day)
This week marks a special milestone as The Black Experience in Music (BEM) celebrates five years since its return to the WKDU 91.7 FM airwaves.
In 2021, the return was commemorated with a memorable 24-hour marathon featuring Black Drexel University alumni who shared the music, culture, and conversations that have made the program a cherished tradition. Throughout the broadcast, listeners enjoyed an eclectic mix of progressive jazz, straight-ahead jazz, fusion, reggae, and thought-provoking community conversations, reflecting the rich diversity and excellence of Black musical expression.
To celebrate this fifth anniversary, The Black Experience in Music is once again taking over the airwaves for a special 24-hour marathon, beginning 12:00 a.m. Sunday, July 19, and continuing through 12:00 a.m. Monday, July 20. Throughout the day, BEM hosts will return to the studio to share outstanding music, memories, and the unique programming that has become a hallmark of the show.
The Black Experience in Music can normally be heard every Sunday from midnight until 6:00 p.m., bringing listeners an unmatched blend of jazz, reggae, soul, and music that informs, inspires, and celebrates the African diaspora.
We invite you to be part of this celebration! Tune in, enjoy the music, and call the studio to say hello at 215-895-5917. We’d love to hear from alumni, longtime listeners, and first-time listeners alike.
Be sure to spread the word and invite your family and friends to listen. Throughout the marathon, we’ll also feature special programs and surprise segments highlighting the people, stories, and sounds that have made The Black Experience in Music a beloved part of the WKDU community.
Join us as we celebrate five years of reconnecting, remembering, and keeping the music alive—only on WKDU 91.7 FM.
