Masjidullah Center for Human Excellence presents Jamaaladeen Tacuma and the Brotherhood Collective: in Celebration of Eid Al Fitr and Jazz Appreciation Month. Masjidullah welcomes the Philadelphia community to enjoy an evening of music and spoken word during our most joyous holiday. The history of Islam and history of Jazz in America are undeniably linked. During the modern jazz era, musicians such as Ahmad Jamal, Yusuf Lateef Art Blakey (Abdullah Ibn Buhaina), Pharaoh Sanders, Talib Dawud, and Lynn Hope were Muslim jazz musicians that had a profound effect on the history of jazz. Today there is a revival of the term “Spiritual Jazz” that grew out of the 1960’s cultural shift which encompasses the jazz music that was impacted by the creative influence of Islam. Jamaaladeen Tacuma and his Quartet will perform “Spiritual Jazz” songs from Muslim American Musicians including his own original works such as Elhamdulillah and Kismet.
