Formed in the thriving Bristol scene orbiting the Howling Owl Records label, the Tara Clerkin Trio started out as a much larger ensemble – an eight-piece band, to be exact. Gradually more than half the members “un-joined,” leaving the vital core of Clerkin (voice, clarinet) and brothers Sunny Joe Paradiso (drums) and Patrick Benjamin (synths). Not that you’d notice anything missing: what remains is a dreamy blend of slow jazz, bedroom pop, psych-folk, electronica and trip-hop rendered in an atmospheric, minimalist haze. Prepare to be mesmerized.
