An eccentric ensemble based in Philadelphia, Impressionist is a seven-piece psych-rock group that imaginatively merges throat singing, keys, and dissonant guitars, accentuated by saxophone, trombone, and dual driving percussion parts. Their songs graft free-jazz improvisation to classical forms, bolstered by heavy riffage and soaring vocals. Impressionist delivers a listening experience that ranges from melodic to beautifully chaotic.
