The Mountain Goats' next album, which will be released on Merge Records, is a concept album about pro wrestling. That's not a joke. A big fan of WWE as a kid, frontman John Darnielle says, "I wrote these songs to re-immerse myself in the blood and fire of the visions that spoke to me as a child, and to see what more there might be in them now that I’m grown.”
In a folk/americana format Darnielle creates intriguing and empathetic musical landscapes that range from topics of loss, growth, paranoia, guilt, hysteria and every human emotion in between.
