Waiting in Line on Sat 9/19/26

Our (potential) last show of 2026! Thank you, everyone, for the love and support (amid the constant tech issues)! Remember to stay in line because the mission never ends!

Happy National Hispanic Heritage Month! We talked about the upcoming Puerto Rican Day Parade on September 27. We also looked back at recent events like La Feria del Barrio in El Centro de Oro and the Mexican Independence Day Festival.

Looking ahead, the Omno Naija Festival is happening September 27, while the Mid-Autumn Festival is coming up next Friday. We won’t be on air that day, but the following day, AAU’s festival in Philadelphia’s Chinatown will be taking place.

We also talked about the Philadelphia Orchestra’s upcoming 127th season, which opens September 24 with the U.S. premiere of Joe Hisaishi’s Orbis alongside Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, as well as the Candlelight Concerts happening around the city.

We highlighted Philly Fashion Week, happening around the city this week with runway shows, fashion competitions, and more.

And of course, Happy Ethiopian New Year again! Speaking of Ethiopia, CHXRRY also made her Philly radio debut today. We’re excited to bring her music to Philly!

Food segment:

On our socials, you will see our food review posts, “As Heard On Waiting in Line”, are now up! Be ready for more food reviews coming soon!

What new restaurants are we waiting in line for this week? Today we were (literally) waiting in line for the grand opening of Holy Guacamoly in University City! We also talked about Haraz Coffee House’s soft opening in Center City starting today.

We also talked about the 4th annual Philly Halal Food Festival happening tomorrow and Little Movie Store, which is set to open in South Philadelphia in October.

Around the world:

We talked about Rock in Rio, which recently took place in Brazil, and gave Jão his Philly radio debut.

The Latin Grammy nominations are also out, and we discussed some of the category choices, including the decision to place merengue and bachata in the same category.

We also gave an update on Kenya’s push to bring the Grammys to Nairobi.

With the Caribbean Music Awards coming up tomorrow, we played nominees Ruthelle Guillaume, Charlin Bato, and Lady Lava, giving each of them their Philly radio debut.

We also played Tiana Major9 ahead of her upcoming Philly concert next month.

Southeast Asia:

Phương Mỹ Chi made her Philly radio debut with ‘Thử Lòng Quân Tử’, featuring Xoan singing. We also continued our conversation about how “LAVIEM”, which we played last week, recently debuted at #4 on the Vietnam Hot 100 right after.

We discussed Vietnam joining the Silk Way Star music competition and also gave VietLead its Philly radio PSA debut!

We also introduced Sokun Nisa and Dana Paulene, while talking about Southeast Asian solidarity and the significance of the upcoming film Forgotten Island.

Entertainment:

We honored legendary costume designer Bob Mackie, remembering his contributions to entertainment and fashion.

And looking ahead to next month, we played CupcakKe and Rico Nasty in celebration of their upcoming performances at Drexel.

We also put the spotlight on some of Philly’s own superstars, playing Scuemi, Z-Best, Lena L., and Amir Ali!

And of course, Happy Ethiopian New Year! Speaking of Ethiopia, CHXRRY also made her Philly radio debut today. We’re excited to bring her music to Philly!

Waiting in Line

DJs:
dongsurdong
Friday 5-6pm
Just like waiting in line for a grand opening, wait in line with us as we discover artists from around the world before they break through. Some may already be making waves elsewhere but are still waiting to find their audience in Philly or the U.S. We’ll follow their journeys, revisit past picks and connect the sounds of the world with the communities that make Philly what it is. We’ll be bringing the world to Philly while recognizing the world OF Philly.
