Ten of my Favorite Things!

It’s a new year and I have been thinking about all the things that have given me JOY. In times like these it’s an act of defiance to be JOYFUL abs to find things that give you slivers of light in the dark. Some of you may know that I am a practicing artist and photographer. This fall , now that my two boys are big enough to be in school full days, I was planning on going to start graduate school at Moore College in Philadelphia. Was planning on starting my Masters in Fine Arts. However COVID caused me to put it on the backburner for another year. But what’s another year anyway? I was working at the Barnes Foundation as a school group guide. But that too disappeared as mUseums and cultural institutions closed and discontinued tours.

Dawn- Bronson feat:Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs

There is truly no song that I have heard during the early lockdown period of COVID that made me ache. A song that when you hear it, your heart just knows that this song is this moment in history... in time. The video that i am linking you to here tells the story of the lockdown time, all over the world from emptiness and isolation to togetherness and joy.... we will DANCE AGAIN! Also please donate to the International Medical Corps Coronavirus Relief. The link for that is also in the video. Covid will soon be history but we will never forget how this past year has changed us forever!

A beautiful day is coming... it is right around the corner. wear a mask......get the vaccine when you can.... continue to wash your hands and stay safe!

Thanks for tuning in as always...

Psyched for 2021

Looking forward to a new year with lots of new music and of course classic Trance Progressive Breaks on The Politics of Dancing. This show marks my 26th year as a DJ at the station. (Though there was that gap from 2009- 2019) but who is counting?!
This was one of my first promotional pictures from a flyer from 1998.

Best of 2020!

While I have been notably absent from the airwaves since March, I have been listening to so much new music. John Digweed's Bunker sets on Mixcloud have been the savior of dance music this covid season. We are without the club but not without COMMUNITY! I have been blessed to discover so many new artists this year who have made me want to dive , headlong into doing in the clubs again. This year's best are very much Breaks heavy. Framewerk and Bicep have been the two biggest contributors to my list as well as new tracks from Sasha and Frankey Wah. I mean... i had to stop and rewind at least a hundred time before i was able to finally get the tootle of the new release "Haunted" , what Sasha played on his Burning Man set this summer. Breaks seems to be the way.... of the future.

Future X Sounds

I had the pleasure of going to the Future X Sounds concert at World Cafe Live on October 4th. With acts like Lalah Hathway and Talib Kweli headlining the series in Los Angeles and New York, the Philadelphia concert was headlined by James Poyser of the Roots, who had a jam session with some of the best musicians in Philadelphia such as George “Spanky Mccurdy, Mononeon and Jaleel Shaw.

The first performance was by Killiam Shakespeare, an eclectic music collective led by Stevie Mckie and Corey Bernard, who performed two musical pieces full of thought and suspense. The songs were in different keys, pitches and always ended on a high note.

An Inside Look at Night Swim Radio's Latest Compilation Album

If you enjoy diving into experimental hip hop and bouncy future beats, you owe it to yourself to check out Night Swim Radio's latest compilation The Deep End - Volume 1. Night Swim is a Philadelphia based web radio show that has consistently selected amazing underground artists for their weekly mixes, live showcases and compilation albums. I had the pleasure of hosting NSR's co-founder and all-around badass, Robert Ritter, for an awesome guest mix on Snack Time, so I reached back out with a couple questions to gain further insight into The Deep End and Night Swim.

RL Grime @ Electric Factory 10/30 Concert Review

I had been waiting for this show for over a year. I used to hate trap music and then one day it just clicked for me, and RL Grime was one of the artists that made me love it. When I first heard the High Beams EP I was amazed, and last year when RL Grime dropped his Halloween mix (with an intro by the real RL Stine) I played it over and over for days. His debut album announcement earlier this year has kept me on the line, I’ve been waiting and waiting (and I’m still waiting).
