Come Celebrate Jazz appreciation month outdoors in Clark Park at the Jazz Geneaologies: Spring Sounds and Vinyl Swap. Attendees will enjoy a listening session of curated Jazz records including cuts from the “Sounds of Liberation: Unreleased” featuring a reissue performance of the legendary, Philadelphia-founded Avante-garde Jazz collective at Columbia University in 1973, and more titles.

Folks can also participate in a Vinyl Swap and bring up to 10 records in good condition to swap and bring home new-to-you records and books for your own collection.

Audiences wil also experience a live musical set by Shugsline in ensemble exploring jazz genealogies, tracing the impact, development, and contributions of the genre in the context of modern styles of playing. The lens of genealogy at this event is non-linear, co-emphasizing ancestry and evolution within the constellation of Black music tradions. Performers and listeners alike will be invited to be present in communion together and appreciate Jazz as a connective thread we can access and uplift in our expression.

About the Curator/Organzier:
Sweet Corey-Bey (they/them/theirs), is a transgender artist and cultural organizer, based in West Philadelphia. They create subversive, liberatory cultural experiences through their music and shows, a practice informed by their study of gender variant performers and world builders. They are an accomplished bassist and composer. They are founder and leader of the gender and genre bending music collective, Black Folks Don’t Swim? Sweet’s art practice is based in the fundamental Black music traditions of Blues, Jazz, Gospel and Soul.
